ACX is for authors who want audio books created, and because it’s owned by Amazon, you can guess where those audiobooks will go on sale.
You guessed it! In the Amazon marketplace.
I recently wrote a story about it being time for us writers on Medium (and elsewhere) to stop leaving money on the table.
When I wrote that story, I knew I was talking to myself also, I just didn’t realize to what extent. But the more I thought about it, the more things began to click!
SNAP!
When it comes to my audio books and making money from the ACX referral “bounty” program, I’ve been leaving an awful lot of money on the table!
Here’s how…
Why should authors use ACX for creating audio books?
When authors begin to look into the option of having an audiobook created, it makes perfect sense to consider Amazon as a solution.
Why wouldn’t you. Amazon already has the whole self publishing industry sold up with their:
So why wouldn’t you want to use Amazon and their ACX website for audiobooks? When it comes to the audio book industry, Amazon’s “Audible” books are highly popular with readers.
My 69-year-old sister is home-bound, and all she does is listen to audiobooks — when she’s not binge watching cooking shows. She’s had her Audible account for more than ten years!
Anyone who knows the Amazon brand, knows that they always have some kind of specials and deals, to keep consumers happy and always coming back.
The same is true for the various offers they have for their book customers, like the splendid trial offers, especially the service pertaining to their own brand of audio books, known as “Audible”
Audible books are Amazon self published books that have been converted to audio format.
One of the great benefits connected with Audible books has to do with the Free Audible Trial, allowing customers to try the services for a limited time, without paying a fee. This is actually advantageous to everyone concerned.
- Customers benefit from the ability to try the service and see if they like and want to keep it.
- The book’s author can benefit from: 1) Audio book sales. And if they’re also an affiliate like me, from: 2) Commissions related to the Audible Free Trial 3) Commissions related to the Audible Bounty Program
- The narrator of the book can potentially benefit from the same sources as the author (if they’re affiliates).
Now, let’s talk about the obvious question, when it comes to earning from the ACX website’s services.
How can you make money with ACX audio books?
One thing I have come to realize is that you can make money with the audiobooks created on ACX, even when you don’t aggressively promote them.
I earn when people stumble across my audiobooks.
The title you see below was the result of narrator Wendy Almeida, the talented woman I was thrilled to find on ACX, and I didn’t have to shell out any upfront money to get her.
I actually lucked up, because this narrator is fantastic and she has worked with lots of authors. She has a large portfolio on Amazon. She ended up narrating two of my books.
We both earn from my audio book sales.

A helpful guide with a number of thought provoking discussions and personal anecdotes from the author, on how to combat the stress that comes from difficult but common everyday events and circumstances.
Besides offering my own Audible book for sale I also share the Free Audible Trial link with my readers, so they can do one or both of the following:

Final Thoughts
In case you’re wondering why you might be reading and seeing ACX and some other website names thrown around a lot, it’s because too many of us are missing out on what’s right under our noses.
When I write stories about lucrative affiliate marketing or referral opportunities, you can expect names like Fiverr, and Canva to come up more and more, because the earning potential is truly available.
But aside from those two websites, if you’re an aspiring or new self published author; the name to keep your mind on is Amazon, and basically everything that Amazon touches.
They have a love affair with writers and authors, and the high volume of business that we bring to the table.
Like so many other Amazon services and resources, ACX is tailor made for us.
🆕 One of the more recent gifts that Amazon has started providing to author’s is Amazon’s Virtual Voice (AI narration). While still in beta, selecting this option when available to you, will enable authors to convert their eligible eBooks into audiobooks.
The primarily requirement is having a US-based KDP account with a reflowable text eBook. Any books found to be eligible, can be converted in minutes, Authors can choose from 80+ AI voices, and take advantage of the dedicated studio for editing purposes.
It doesn’t matter whether you decide to locate a human narrator for your book, or you like the idea of using AI to get started, and tweaking AI results to your liking.
Whatever you decide, the main issue is making sure you start giving serious thought to the option of having your book or novel turned into an audio book.

Are you ready to look into this resource more, so you can start on your way? You might even find that you’re interested in doing voice overs and book narration yourself, just like Wendy Almeida. She currently has several dozen books that she has narrated. With audio books, the possibilities are endless.
Do yourself a favor and have your books turned into Audible books that you can promote and earn from.
